the night shift
Below is a guide for obtaining the badge 'endless shift' in the quest the night shift! Be aware that there may be spoilers ahead, so read at your own discretion! The images are hidden by default, but click/tap the drop down arrow to reveal it.
Brief context:
Sid is a cashier who works at Biz Mart- a remote convenience store in northeast Minnesota. Sid has worked at Biz Mart longer than anyone else there has, so he often helps out with everything around the store. While no one knows exactly how long he has worked there, it certainly does seem like it's starting to take a toll on him...
Before starting: You're going to need to know how to access the back area of Biz Mart prior to playing this mini-quest. Check the guide on Lucid's realm if you haven't yet!
Step 1: When you log into the game, head to the back area of Biz Mart. Around the corner, you will find a strange box with a black liquid splattered around and on it. Once found, jump on the box. Note: This will teleport you to another external map. It is also single player.
Step 2: You will be teleported to a fuzzy version of Biz Mart. Head inside the store and talk to Sid. It looks like you'll be doing inventory for the night.
Step 3: Once you finish talking to Sid, head over to the 'EMPLOYEES ONLY' door. When you head inside, you'll immediately notice that it's dark. It's a long tunnel! Just keep walking forward until you reach the end of it.
Step 4: When you reach the second area, talk to Sid again. You'll then head into the 'EMPLOYEES ONLY' door again and see the same tunnel. Keep moving forward until you reach the third area. By this point, you'll start to notice things are becoming different. Talking to Sid, the dialog takes a bit longer to initiate. Once finished, go back in the long tunnel until you reach the fourth area.
Step 5: By this point, things are clearly getting serious. The notes on the walls have scribbles, the music and clock ticking are getting slower, and Sid's dialog prompt is taking longer. Talk to Sid again and then head back into the long tunnel until you reach the next area.
Step 6: Upon reaching the fifth area, you'll notice that the outside of the store is completely dark. Inside, there are various black splatter stains on the floor, a black substance dripping from the ceiling, and the light above Sid is red. Talk to Sid once more and read what he has to say. After this, head back into the long tunnel.
Step 7: When reaching the sixth area, the world is completely dark and void of life. When you exit the tunnel, there is a Flashlight item on the ground. Picking it up is optional, but continue ahead and reach the inside of the store.
Step 8: When you head inside the store, Sid's office is locked. Unlike the previous areas, you can actually enter the office now, but you will have to find a key to access this part.
Step 9: Head back outside and go around the store. When you spot the vending machine, you'll notice there is a key inside of it. Click/tap the selection pad on the vending machine to obtain the Grey Key item.
Step 10: Head back inside and equip the Grey Key item. Once equipped with the key in your hand, use it on the door. The prompt should now update for you to go inside the room now.
Step 11: Once you head inside, you will briefly catch a glimpse of the inside of the office. However, you will be blocked from entering any further and be kicked from the experience. A message will display telling you that you have been disconnected along with the message accompanying it. You should now obtain the 'endless shift' badge. Congratulations! You made it to the end of the mini-quest!
Notes:
This mini-quest is not interconnected with any limited time event in the game such as the Halloween Party, April Fool's Party, Noir Party etc.
Because this is a stand-alone quest, it is permanently available at any time to check out.
It appears that each area occurs on a different night. The moon in the sky will change in phase as you progress through the quest; in the fifth area, the moon is actually undergoing a lunar eclipse.
The note next to Sid at the cash register also updates as you progress through the quest.
The ambience that plays when you reach the final area is actually a slowed down version of 'sounds' being emitted from the Moon.
In the fifth area of the quest, if you look closely at Sid, he is actually crying.
The sound that plays when you enter Sid's office is the Mac Classic II crash sound effect.
The notes on the board behind Sid actually change when you reach the fifth area to reflect his thoughts at that point.
