BEACH CLOSES AS STORMY WEATHER PASSES
By: Oswald
The Beach dimension has been closed temporarily as tropical cyclone "A23" passes by.
According to the Dimension Weather Prediction Service, weather sensors at the Beach have appeared to confirm that the cyclone has fully reached the Beach, as the data shows heavy rain, strong winds, and flooding being recorded.
The Dimension Protection Force temporarily shut down the dimension earlier this week as they deemed it too dangerous to travel in at the moment.
"Patrol officers are patrolling the borders of the dimension to prevent people from going in," DPU Chief Matías says, "As the storm passes, no one's allowed in. We're in touch with the DWPS as they monitor the system."
The DWPS says the weather station and its sensors are still fully functional during the storm, and have been recording data nonstop. The strongest wind gust recorded at the moment was 154 kph and they expect the storm to continue strengthening before peaking sometime over the weekend.
"Our forecasts call for this cyclone to peak by Sunday and then gradually die down," Cirrus of the DWPS says, "What we've seen so far may not be its strongest yet. This is why we encouraged everyone there to evacuate out of safety."
According to the DWPS, storm surge is the most dangerous part of a tropical cyclone. It is defined as a wall of water that is pushed by the system's strong winds towards the coast. Once this wall of water hits the coast, it can be destructive as it can cause major flooding. This flooding can be many meters, or feet, high, and can be life threatening.
"Rain and wind can be a threat during tropical cyclones, with tornadoes also being a threat, but storm surge is by far more dangerous," Cirrus explains, "Of course, we'll continue to monitor to see how this storm plays out."
The DWPS will continue to monitor this system as they expect it to dissipate by sometime next week.
"You can always tune in to WTHR channel 8 to get the latest weather news and forecasts where you are or from around the dream world!" Cirrus says, "Of course, you can also visit the DWPS' website or visit your nearest forecasting office for more resources and information."
A LOOK INTO CAPPY'S CAT CAFE
By: Arial
Looking for somewhere to get pastries, tea, or coffee that isn't too crowded? I may just know of a place!
Located to the northeast of the Lodge dimension is a peculiar little cafe that doesn't see too much foot traffic. It's called Cappy's Cat Cafe, and it's quite interesting!
It is owned by local cat-hybrid, Cappuccino, who goes by Cappy. He established this cafe in 2020, but business has been slow. Despite this, the cafe is still operational and making pastries!
"We love making pastries! We make cupcakes, pies, cinnamon rolls, donuts, and other types of pastries! We also make different types of bread if you're looking for something like that," cafe owner, Cappy, tells me.
The cafe is pretty clean too. Prior to walking in, you can smell the pastries from the outside, and when you walk in, the floors are clean and the tables as well.
"We keep this cafe in tip top shape! And by 'we', I mean my other two employees Mint and Violet!" Cappy explains, "Mint is very hard working just as Violet is as well. They like their time here, even if shifts can be slow…"
When asked about the types of customers they receive, Cappy says it ranges depending on the type of person.
"We've gotten cat-hybrids just like us come in for goodies, but we've also gotten all walks of life! Angels, demons, fellow animal hybrids and anthropomorphs, and more!" Cappy says, "I think the funniest customers we can get are the ones that look really intimidating, but have a soft spot for treats. Perhaps they walk in looking angry and then ask for five cupcakes to go, maybe they come storming in and simply ask for a pie, or perhaps they walk in asking for a goodie platter to take back to their boss who loves our treats as a gift for them…it's a lot!"
Cappy says despite the slow service, he doesn't plan on shutting down.
"We still have our loyal customers who come back from time to time to order and we don't plan on shutting down!" Cappy explains, "With trusty employees like Mint and Violet, I think we'll be fine. But please do visit! We'd love new customers!"
Cappy's Cat Cafe is open year-round and located northeast of the Lodge dimension. You can also order online on their website to pick up later in person. Overall, I'd give this cafe five out of five stars! Come visit if you haven't had the chance!
Q/A: Ask Nate
Dear Nate, how do people get around in the dream world?
By: Carrie Bus
Hello Carrie! First off, it's nice to be back taking questions as I'm on a quick break. Alright, so today the question is about getting around the dream world. This one's easy!
In the dream world, we have public transportation, but of course most of it is limited to the District dimension. The rural dream world often finds itself traveling by foot as vehicles and other transportation options are scarce.
The Dream World Public Transportation System is in charge of regulating and monitoring all public transportation in the dream world. Whether it be by car, bus, train, boat, or even foot, they make sure everything's running smoothly- no pun intended!
As you may already know, getting around by car in the District is quite common. Taking the rail system is also common too in some wards! You can take the subway or metro and get from place to place within the district. Boats can also be utilized in wards with large bodies of water to take people from point A to point B. Aerial transportation is not common and typically consists of helicopters, but you'd have to be wealthy to even afford such a method!
When I go to work, I take the metro! It is a rail system that the public can utilize in the District to get to different stops. I personally can't drive a car, so I just take the metro. It's fun to sit and look out the window as you're in there getting to your destination!
The rural dream world often resorts to traveling by foot. Buses do run in the rural dream world, but they are also kind of scarce. Only certain dimensions have bus stops and even so, their destinations and stops are limited. The subway system in the rural dream world doesn't have trains to run on them, but they do pass through some dimensions. You're better off walking through the subway tunnels to get from place to place this way.
What method do you like to take to get to a specific place? I'd love to know! Hopefully our public transportation system continues to improve and find new ways to travel. The future is coming!
Dear Nate, what's the dream world's official currency?
By: Baggel O'Cash
Hello Baggel! Believe it or not, the dream world has an official currency!
In the early days of dream worldian society, a system of trade and barter was in place for a while. However, the Council at the time decided to scrap this system and implement an official currency.
Soon, the Morph would be adopted! Named after the God of dreams, Morpheus, it replaced the faulty trade and barter system and has been in use since. Morphs consist of both coins and bills and can be defined by the symbol m̶, which is the letter m crossed through.
For coins, there is the 1m̶, 5m̶, and 50m̶. For bills, they consist of 100m̶, 200m̶, 500m̶, and 1000m̶. While the Morph is the official currency of the dream world, regular human currency can also be exchanged, in certain dimensions.
Certain dimensions can accept human currency that also circulates within the dream world. To preserve a dimension's cultural significance, human currency that stems from that dimension in the real world can be exchanged as so. Though keep in mind that Morph are accepted everywhere in the dream world, so keep that in mind when traveling!
If you need to exchange human currency into Morphs or vise-versa, you can just visit a bank! They will be happy to convert your currency into whatever currency you want. On another note, it's important to have a safe place to keep all your money. Whether it be a wallet, purse, or a safe in your home, always keep your money safe! That's important!
I don't think the Morph is getting replaced anytime soon. I doubt the Council will suddenly come out to say that we need a new monetary system or currency. What if they decide to go back to trading and bartering? Geez, that would be going back in time…and I wasn't even around when that existed yet! Does that mean I'm still young…or am I already old anyway? Sheesh!
