WINTER STORM TO AFFECT MUCH OF THE DREAM WORLD

By: Porter

In what appears to be a repeat of last year, the Dimension Weather Prediction Service is forecasting another massive winter storm coming next week.

Recent model and forecast data are heavily suggesting that snow is going to become abundant in the dream world within the week to come. The data uses last year’s historical outlier to make that prediction, but it is also used to study and pick up “oddities” in the data that led to last year’s freak snow storm.

The DWPS stated that certain weather station sensors are picking up on these “oddities” again, which happened similarly last year, just before the freak winter storm that took over the dream world.

“We’re confident that another dream world-wide winter event is upon us,” DWPS Chief Tropos stated in a press conference, “This is why we ask everyone to pay attention to our agency within the next few weeks. We don’t want a chaotic repeat of last year.”

While the DWPS is confident another massive snow storm is upon us, the extent of its magnitude is not known. There is a chance it is just as bad as last year, but there’s also a chance it is less bad. Chief Tropos says it depends on the reaction of the public.

“If the public is aware and prepares ahead of time, then things will be less disastrous,” he says, “Follow the directions of authorities and listen to the DWPS for weather advisories. It’s crucial to stay safe before, during, and after the event.”

On the topic of weather advisories, the DWPS recently updated the titles for two of its three main advisory types.

The “ADVISORY” type has been changed to “WATCH” while the “ALERT” type has been changed to “WARNING” now. Despite the name change, the definitions remain similar.

“When under a ‘WATCH’, it simply means to be on the lookout for possible weather conditions in your area that could be hazardous,” Cirrus of the DWPS explains, “When under a ‘WARNING’, it means that weather conditions in your area are currently hazardous and could be life-threatening. You need to heed ‘WARNING’ very seriously! Otherwise, the terms are simple to understand.”

The weather service has said that this change and other tweaks to its advisory system will roll out this week.

“Things are about to get cold and snowy so we should prepare ahead of time,” Cirrus says, “However, there is no reason to panic. We have about a week before the weather goes downhill. We can’t stress enough how important it is to prepare now. We don’t want to go through the disaster the public had to go through last year. Better safe than sorry!”

The DWPS website will be updating as information comes out. Please visit their website for the latest forecasts and models, but if you need additional help, please visit your nearest weather service office for resources.

DPF ISSUES GUIDANCE AHEAD OF UPCOMING WINTER STORM

By: Oswald

The Dimension Protection Force is issuing guidance ahead of an upcoming winter storm that is set to affect a grand majority of the dream world.

According to DPF sources, the DWPS got in contact with the DPF with information about upcoming weather conditions and asked to give the public a heads-up.

“I’ve discussed this matter with Chief Tropos of the DWPS,” DPF Director Ferekides tells me, “I am grateful he passed along this very critical information to me. We can let the public know what’s going on.”

Below are guidelines the DPF has issued ahead of the weather event:

The DPF states that it’s possible its emergency services could be suspended, as they did last year when roads became inaccessible to travel due to the heavy snow. They urge people to prepare now as things may be just as bad as it was last year.

“Follow our guidance to stay ahead of any situation. We don’t want anyone getting hurt or injured during this upcoming event,” Director Ferekides states, “Our rescue operations team may not be able to respond to certain calls if roads are blocked or weather conditions are deemed unsafe for travel.”

The agency also reiterates for people to stay calm before, during, and after the storm.

“We get we sound scary, but we have about a week’s worth of time to be prepared. Our agency is also preparing for it after last year’s event,” the director says, “So this year, we have an idea of what to do and how to respond better.”

Q/A: Ask Nate

How has the Council’s reputation held together for so long?

By: Ripu Tayshun

Hi Ripu! I always like questions about the Council since they’re a pretty big deal!

The Council has been around for millennia, which means the organization itself is incredibly old- older than Lucid! There are seven council members, but all of them are very secretive and reclusive. It’s hard to even photograph one!

The Council is highly respected, nonetheless. They watch over the dream world very carefully to ensure full order. In order to gain public trust, they must stay out of trouble themselves and listen to what the people say.

If you didn’t know already, each ward of the District- the biggest dimension of the dream world, is looked after by its respective council member. There are six wards, which means one member for each ward; this leaves one council member who is reserved to look after the outside of the District, that is, the rural dream world itself.

Each council member, in each ward plus rural dream world, is seen as the highest ranking official in their respective area and tends to matter for the area they’re in. While they do not really make public appearances, many things are handled remotely by the council member to solve disputes or other conflicts.

This remote problem solving puts trust and respect in the eyes of residents and thus keeps the Council’s image clean. Council members must all obey the rules and refrain from acting up, as one bad apple can ruin the Council’s reputation and break public trust. If a council member does fall out of line, they are dealt with accordingly, kicked out, punished, and are subjected to other matters with the aid of the DPF- who is a hand of the Council really. This has only happened three times in recorded history, so the public does not really have problems with the Council. Of course, for big matters affecting the entirety of the dream world, the seven members convene and vote on a solution.

Seeking an audience with the Council is rare though, like, very, VERY rare! You’ll have to receive a summons to see them if they have gotten word of you, either very positive or very negative, or if you’re a human looking to return to the real world. High crimes are dealt with by a trial with the Council presiding over it, so you know, don’t do anything REALLY bad…

Of course, the Council is pretty interesting, but still mysterious. Members rarely issue public statements, they’re rarely seen, and very few have contact with them. Director Ferekides of the DPF has the most contact with them, though occasionally, leaders of other organizations get in touch with them such as the DWPS, DPDS, DPEC, etc., but even that is rare.

Still, if you want to see where the Council resides, head to the District! They have their own place floating above the District way high up in the sky. You may not ever visit that mysterious building, but you sure can admire it from afar! I haven’t been there myself, but I know someone who has…

Does the DPF come together to discuss problems and other matters?

By: Reyun Ion

Hiya Reyun! As a matter of fact, yes, they do!

If you didn’t know already, the DPF is really made up of other branches within it that all interconnect and work with each other. Each inner agency branch has its own leader that runs that specific branch. Director Ferekides is the Director of the DPF, so he oversees every single one of us!

At the beginning of each month, Director Ferekides calls a meeting for all the big bosses of each branch to discuss important matters and other things from each agency. From what I heard, they sit in a big room around a long table and go one by one presenting stats from that month from their agency and report on anything new or significant that happened.

Some of the more important branches include the rescue operations team- led by Leader Finnegan, a friend of mine!, the public health unit (DDCP) led by Chief Demi, the investigative unit led by Chief Daiki, my current boss and a bit intimidating man…, the forensics unit led by Chief Vivienne, the patrol unit led by Chief Matías, the intelligence unit led by Chief Kamaria, and of course there’s more and the branches have their own names but wow it’s a lot to memorize, I know!

In the event of emergencies, Director Ferekides can summon a meeting to discuss the emergency at hand. All branch leaders must convene as soon as possible to address any emergency situation.

When it’s a regular meeting, leaders must present paperwork of the ups and downs that specific branch faced within the past month, report any incidents, list statistics, and other boring things that I’d probably fall asleep to. Leaders are tasked with a lot on their hands to keep things running smoothly, but the director makes sure to keep them on track!

Director Ferekides is a tall, built man with several hands, but he is very nice! Actually, he’s pretty laid-back nowadays. I mean, when you’ve led the agency since like, ever, you are more relaxed in the present time. I’ve gotten to know him well during the time Lucid was my partner in the DPF, and he knows that the two of us worked really well. He told me that Lucid spoke very highly of me, so I always remember to be grateful that Lucid- someone who surprised the director with his wit, intelligence, and skill during his time at the DPF- kind of helped me elevate myself in the agency- well, at least in the director’s eyes.

But yes, leaders of each branch do meet monthly with Director Ferekides to discuss boring paperwork, statistics, and other matters. In emergencies, they are summoned and report ASAP to the director. Yes, the DPF has a lot of things in it that interconnect, but they all share one common goal: to protect, defend and keep an eye on the dream world- the place we call home!
