MASSIVE WINTER STORM STRIKES DREAM WORLD ONCE MORE

By: Porter

A massive snow storm has hit the dream world, again.

For a second year in a row, the observable outdoors of the dream world has begun to experience a winter storm that is slowly causing snow to pile up in various dimensions. Now only that, but freezing temperatures are also causing icy problems in various locations.

The DWPS had anticipated this and had issued caution since the beginning of the month. The weather service states that weather stations across the dream world are working overtime reporting data back to various forecasting offices and so far, there are no problems with any of the stations.

While weather stations are doing fine, snowfall is continuing to pile up. Excessive snowfall is making travel across certain parts of the dream world difficult, and the DPF has advised people to stay indoors unless it is an absolute emergency to head out.

“We haven’t issued any ‘Shelter-in-place’ orders as of yet,” a DPF spokesperson says, “We do recommend people to stay at home though, unless it’s really important to go out. Although, a lot of businesses closed ahead of the storm, so it’d be hard to even find a business who’s open in this weather.”

The DPF is also obtaining data being shared from the DWPS’ weather stations as part of an ongoing investigation into the weird anomalies across the dream world. The investigative unit of the DPF, the Detective Investigation Agency (DIA), is closely monitoring the data with the help of the DWPS to see if they spot anything strange or similar to last year’s data.

“We asked the weather agency to share their data of weather stations across the dream world without needing to issue an order prompting them to do so,” Chief Daiki of the DIA says, “Hopefully, this will help the DIA out in the long term and of course, hand intel down to Nate and M3-0W who are on this particular case.”

Chief Daiki says that his agency will likely go asking other organisations across the dream world for data to help aid the ongoing investigation, although most likely when the time comes.

“Let’s assume we have another disease on our hands this year; we’re going to ask the DDCP for intel regarding that. What about a problem with the postal service? We go to the DPDS and request information. A strange power outage? DPEC will have to hand us over documents and data. It’s that simple,” Chief Daiki states.

In the meantime, the DPF and DWPS will monitor all corners of the dream world during the snowstorm in the event of any emergency. Chief Tropos of the DWPS expects this snowstorm to persist through the end of the month.

“This event will be massive and will persist towards the end of January,” he said in a press conference last Tuesday, “This is why we can’t stress enough that the public should have prepared ahead of time. It’s going to be pretty difficult to travel and move about for the next two weeks or so. We hope the public heeded our advice.”

The DWPS is posting updates on their website during this event. For forecasts in a specific dimension, models, or other information, you can visit their website for more information. The weather service asks the public to refrain from visiting their nearest forecasting office amidst the snowstorm and asks to visit their website for the latest updates.

SERVICES ON BRINK OF SUSPENSION AMID STORM

By: Roman

As the snowstorm rages on outside, several essential services could be suspended again, just as they were during last year’s storm.

According to various sources, organizations like the DPDS, DPEC, and the DPF’s rescue operations team, could suspend their services depending on the severity of the weather outside.

The postal service is closely monitoring the weather with help of the DWPS. Their criteria to suspend services for this type of inclement weather include high winds, impassible roadways that make it difficult to reach certain destinations, and/or low visibility.

“So far, things are somewhat manageable,” Chief Kaige of the DPDS says, “Our postal delivery workers are bundled up for this event and still delivering postal material, however, we may soon suspend services across much or all of the dream world if it gets worse out there.”

“Power and energy services should continue to run normally through the storm,” DPEC Chief Lumière states, “Outages could occur, but if the conditions outside are too rough for our workers, then we won’t be able to respond and fix the grid until weather conditions improve.”

“We’ll do our best to go out and try to help people if they are in an emergency situation,” Leader Finnegan of the DPF’s rescue operations team says, “Last year, we got a mix of calls relating to fire and medical situations during THAT winter storm, so we’re expecting a similar batch this year. However, if it gets really bad, then I’m afraid I can’t dispatch any team members until the coast is clear!”

Prior to the winter storm, the DPF made a list of guidelines to prepare for the weather event and stressed the importance of being ready in case public and emergency services would be suspended. While most services remain operational, it’s likely that they will stop providing assistance and resources within the next few days.

“Fortunately, we saw how things went down last year, so this year we whipped up new response guidance to help our team out in the worst case scenario,” Finnegan explains, “So even things get even worse, we have experience from last year to guide us! We might’ve made some mistakes then, but we learned and improved upon them so we can be prepared!”

The Tribune is keeping track of what’s operating and what’s suspended on our website. You can check it out, as well as other up to date information on the winter storm. If you need specific information about an agency, visit that agency’s website instead for additional help.

Q/A: Ask Cirrus

Dear Cirrus, what’s the difference between weather and climate?

By: Clyde Mitt

Hello Clyde! There’s always a misconception between both terms, but there is a difference!

Weather is the state of the atmosphere at any given time and place that is constantly changing. This means that weather relates to how conditions up above are over a short period of time. Climate, on the other hand, is the generalized weather variation for a given place. This means that climate is simply an “average” of weather in an area over a long period of time.

Remember that climate data cannot predict weather as weather can change in an instant! We can use climate data to get a general idea of how conditions might be, but it cannot be used to absolutely pinpoint and predict weather on the dot. So, weather is over a short period of time and climate is over a long period of time!

Dear Cirrus, why is the sky blue?

By: Felin Bleu

Hello Felin! A lot of people like to think that the sky is blue for different reasons. In the real world, when solar radiation enters the atmosphere, it comes mostly in radiation of visible light wavelengths. Oxygen molecules in the atmosphere, which are abundant in the atmosphere, scatter this incoming light most effectively in the blue wavelength of light. Because of this, it turns the sky blue on a clear sunny day!

Dear Cirrus, what is hail?

By: Blokof Ayce

Hello Blokof! Hail is a form of precipitation defined as round pellets of ice that are produced in cumulonimbus clouds. They move up and down through the cloud by the updrafts and downdrafts, and as they do so, add layers of freezing rain to the pellet. When these pellets get too heavy, they fall to the ground from the cloud. They are typically 1 to 5 centimeters in diameter, but they can grow as big as tennis balls or even grapefruits! Hail can only be produced in cumulonimbus clouds, and these clouds are most common in the spring and summer times. If you find a hailstone, you can cut it in half and see rings in it. The number of rings in the hailstone indicate the number of times it circled up and down in the cloud before falling!

Dear Cirrus, is every year going to start off with a freak winter storm from now on?

By: Dun W. Diz

Hello Dun! I’m not sure if every year is going to start out with massive snowfall across the dream world from now on. Sure, it did last year and again this year, but we do believe someone is out there manipulating the weather on a large scale. Until we catch this person, then the weather in the dream world might be pretty wild! Fortunately, we have experience from last year’s storm to help us understand and respond better to problems this year, but we don’t know if it’ll be just as bad, better, or worse until the storm passes. The DPF is on the case, and has been for almost a year now, so I hope they get some good leads this time with the data we’re providing and any other evidence they find. Who knows, maybe next year we’ll be spared! I guess we’ll just have to find out eventually!

Upcoming Events:

Now- Winter Party 2023: It’s cold out there! Lots of snow, lots of ice, and lots of problems this is causing. As the snow piles up, it’s going to get hard traveling out there…stay safe!
