SUMMER LOOKING TO BE A BIT HOTTER

By: Roman

With the official start of summer just one week away, things are looking a bit hotter.

According to the Dimension Weather Prediction Service, their seasonal outlook for this summer season has it much opposite than how it went last summer. In 2022, the DWPS predicted an average summer season, but it ended up being below average.

“If you recall last summer, we had volunteers follow us around to take measurements and read observations from various weather stations throughout the dream world,” Cirrus at the DWPS says, “Our data was suggesting that, although still early in the season, summer was appearing to be a on below-average trend when compared to other years on record.”

That was then, and now the weather service is forecasting a summer season that could be hotter. However, their official seasonal outlook won’t be released until next week.

“Our seasonal outlooks always drop on the first day of the meteorological season of the month,” Cirrus explains, “So this means you can get a new seasonal outlook every year on the first day of March, June, September, and December.”

Traditionally, however, the DWPS tends to show a preview of their outlook about a week or so before the actual one. This means that we won’t know the full details of their outlook until then.

“Spring this year was average, I’ll tell you that,” Cirrus says, “As for summer, we won’t spoil much for now- including what factors we’re considering for our prediction- but we can say it’s looking to be near-above average that most other years.”

Rain and thunderstorms took a good portion of the spring season, but with that out of the way, summer is on the way- either to the delight or dismay to some. Cirrus says temperatures are already slowly climbing, and will continue to climb as summer gets in full swing soon.

“We’re already seeing some dimensions slowly but steadily get much warmer,” she states, “Better get those shorts and flip-flops ready, it’s almost summer!”

DDCP REMINDS PUBLIC OF UPCOMING HEAT

By: Oswald

The Dimension Disease Control and Protection agency is reminding the public that the upcoming summer season is not without its dangers.

Every season has its dangers to look out for when it comes to illnesses, including summer. Heat related illnesses are more prevalent in the summer, and the DDCP is reminding everyone of what could come.

Heat exhaustion and heat stroke are two heat related illnesses that can affect anyone who’s out in the heat for too long. Heat exhaustion can lead to heat stroke, but both can be dangerous. The DDCP has differentiated the two since they can be confusing and mistaken.

“Heat exhaustion can leave you dizzy, nauseous, dehydrated, weak with lots of sweating,” Ophelia at the DDCP tells me, “Heat stroke is more serious as it can leave you confused, dizzy, and you become unconscious. Heat exhaustion can lead to heat stroke, and heat stroke can lead to permanent disability or can even be fatal.”

However, just like any illness, there are treatments to help out if you or someone you know may be experiencing one.

“In the case of heat exhaustion, you should move to a cooler area, loosen your clothing, and drink cool water,” she explains, “For heat stroke, you need to move to a cooler area, remove more layers of clothing, and cool yourself with cool water and ice.”

Ophelia says you should still call emergency services in the event of a heat stroke, or seek medical help if heat exhaustion symptoms persist after an hour or so.

“It’s important to call emergency medical services if you or someone is having a heat stroke,” she says, “If your heat exhaustion symptoms continue after an hour, you may need to seek medical help. Do not be afraid to seek medical attention. Your life is worth more than the heat.”

Still, Ophelia hopes that people have fun, but stay safe this upcoming summer.

“Summer’s around the corner and we all want to have some fun,” she says, “But always remember that when it gets too hot, take a ‘chill pill’ and cool yourself off by taking breaks. Get in the shade, drink water, find some place with an A/C. You can stay safe while you have fun once summer arrives. Trust me, you can.”

Q/A: Ask Epsilon

Dear Epsilon, what’s with all the eye symbolism throughout the dream world?

By: Eycee U.

Hello Eycee. Ah, so you might’ve taken notice of how you see eye symbolism and imagery throughout the dream world. Whether it be on posters, walls, graffiti, or organisation logos, they definitely do appear quite literally anywhere.

The recurring imagery and symbolism is there for a reason though. Think about the last time you’ve had a vivid dream- you know, the type of dream that you can recall once you wake up. Did you ever feel something in particular? Perhaps, like someone or something was in there with you…watching?

The whole feeling of being watched in a dream is all too familiar for many. For millennia, humans have felt this way about dreams. The dream world would then take this and kind of roll with it. Feel like you’re being watched in dreams? Well, don’t worry, let’s make it our brand.

I suppose, in a weird way, it’s like an inside joke of some sort. The dream world is literally based on dreams and memories, and if humans feel like something is watching, then why shouldn’t there be a lot of eye imagery and symbolism across the dream world? Many organisations have an eye in their logos. The DPF, DWPS, DPEC, the Council’s logo, heck, even the Subliminal Tribune’s logo has one.

Though, this begs the question: are we literally and actively being watched in the dream world? That’s difficult to say. Technically, we already are when we use the internet. The DPF does monitor certain users more than others if they have a PIA (Peculiar Internet Activity) accusation against them. The DPF’s IAA is in charge of monitoring this type of behaviour, but they also do send out spies and informants to collect intelligence, though mostly when they suspect someone of any wrongdoing.

And yes, there are security cameras around the dream world- though they are mostly to monitor crime. I say mostly because even I have some scepticism. I do not think the dream world is living under a 1984 Big Brother type of novel- no, it’s nothing like that, but the eyes you see around the dream world do make it feel like we are being reminded that we are being watched- whether it be literally or just a part of the brand. Eyes are everywhere and I guess we’ll see if the truth ever comes out.

Dear Epsilon, what’s the biggest dimension in the dream world?

By:  Hugh Normus

Hello Hugh. If you’ve been across the dream world, you’ve probably noticed that a lot of dimensions can be big. The Desert stretches out for kilometres, as does the Tundra, Island, and Forest dimensions- just to name a few. But none of them compare to the size of the District dimension which is the largest dimension in the dream world.

You may have heard of the District in some way, shape, or form. The District is actually an artificial dimension, meaning that it wasn’t necessarily created by human memory or nostalgia, but rather by talented individuals who built it from the bottom up. There are a lot of individually owned establishments and resources in the District, many inspired by other dimensions, and it’s one of the few dimensions with vehicles.

The District is actually cut into six different pieces that are called “wards”. Each ward represents a specific continent in the real world, so we have the Asia ward, Europe ward, Oceania ward, Africa ward, Americas ward, and even Antarctica ward. Wards are cut down even further into certain enclaves. For example, the Asia ward is home to the Japan enclave, or the Europe ward is home to the Italy enclave, etc. The Antarctica ward is the only ward that doesn’t have a specific ethnic background and serves mostly for research or tourism.

Each ward has its own services, but no ward is more powerful than another. Each is seen as an equal and there is no significant history of any conflicts between enclaves in any ward. The people who live in the District, which is basically 85% of the dream world’s population, do get along and live mostly in peace.

The District is also home to big name organisations or figures like the DPF and the Council as well. Although, if you’re looking for the Council, you may want to look up. Their building sits high in the sky on a floating rock overlooking the District. If you’re extremely lucky some day, maybe you’ll get a bird’s eye view from up there if you ever get summoned.

While it is the biggest dimension, lost humans still have trouble finding their way there, and that’s understandable. The dream world is very big and the District accounts for just a portion of its size. Humans are more lucky to stumble into another dimension than the District, but DPF officers will always point you in the right direction. If you have time, why don’t we go and take a visit to the District? Don’t worry, I know my way around.
