DIA CHIEF WARNS AGAINST COMPLACENCY AMIDST UPCOMING FESTIVITIES

Chief Detective Tsukanai Daiki issued a rather stark warning to the dream world earlier this week.

In a press conference on Tuesday, the Detective Investigation Agency warned against complacent behavior from the general public amidst upcoming Halloween festivities. While there are no plans by the DPF to shut down any major events, the DIA chief suggests that everyone should still be aware of possible danger to the general dream world.

“I am aware that many residents are planning to hold Halloween festivities in the coming weeks,” the chief said, “I do must remind everyone that there is still a danger of threats to the dream world even if it has been a while since the last one.”

Chief Daiki says that notorious criminal, Francis Robert P. Jackson, is still on the loose. 

“Remember, Francis is still out there and I'm afraid of what could happen if we become too complacent,” he said, “He could strike at the moment we least expect it- maybe even for Halloween.”

The DIA chief expressed his concerns, but some residents don't seem concerned about it.

“No offence to the chief, but we don't really want to worry about Francis right now,” one resident told me, “He hasn't done anything in months now, so…”

“I get that Francis is still out there but so is Lucid,” another resident told me, “Lucid was the most wanted criminal for years and we were always told he could be a threat and yet he hasn't done anything.”

“I think Francis gave up,” a resident from the Apartments said, “Maybe he just decided he can't do it all by himself. I mean, sometimes you just gotta give up.”

Chief Daiki says that although current intelligence doesn't suggest anything in the near term, he believes something is on the horizon.

“I don't know if Francis will truly strike this month, but I have that feeling that something is going to happen,” he warned, “I think it'll be soon. I don't know how soon though. I just think he will be back soon.”

The chief detective then said the DPF is still actively attempting to find Francis before something else goes down.

“Chiefs Kamaria and Matías are both working with me to track and find Francis once and for all,” he said, “Just know that Halloween can go on, but I don't want anyone to lower their guard. Things may go dark soon, or maybe they won't. Please report anything suspicious.”

HALLOWEEN PARTY AT MY PLACE SOON!

Hellllllo Tribune readers! It’s me again! Oh- I guess I should introduce myself for those who don’t already know this handsome devil!

I am Almoral! Now, you MAY have heard of me in the recent past- I mean, I helped with finding the cure for that Neapworm thing AND I also helped bring all the spirits back home last year! I helped out some cool people, but this year, I’m not looking to help…but rather to host!

I want to announce that I will be hosting my own Halloween party at my mansion! Now that the dream world’s looking calm- hope I didn’t jinx it!- I want to have people come over to my place and celebrate the BEST and most AWESOME holiday ever! Yup, I’m just THAT cool and nice!

Now I know what you’re thinking… “But Almoral, what exactly is there to do?” Well I’ll tell you! I’m gonna have lots of stuff to do! There’s gonna be food, drinks- WITHOUT alcohol, ahem- games like bobbing for apples, costume contest, and other activities! And we CAN’T forget the music, duh. Lots of music and dancing too! Did I mention we’re also going to be painting skulls? Fun, right?!

And yes, I am aware that Count Anastasius will be holding his own party, but come on… We already know how those are! Why not come over to my place instead for something new?? I promise that it’s going to be a LOT of fun! As long as the dream world’s quiet, there won’t be anything you have to worry about here! You’re in good hands with a handsome necromancer like me!

Dear Nate, why are dolls often haunted?

Hiya Chuck! I’m assuming you’re talking about the kind of dolls that are typically stuffed and sewn and come in all sizes! There are doll people in the dream world, but they are real living people! We have our own dolls and plushies that we make to comfort us, but how come we often hear stories of haunted dolls?

I had this question myself long ago when I was investigating a strange case of a haunted object. Of course, this was when I worked with Lucid! It was an old, antique doll that was already worn out, but we were told it would come alive when no one was looking. It was so much for the owner who wanted to know what kept making things around the house bump in the night! I had to ask Lucid why dolls are often haunted.

If I remember correctly, Lucid explained to me that sometimes a spirit will inhabit a doll or plush toy as a way to remain “human.” If you recall, spirits in the dream world are deceased humans who made their way here from the real world. However, sometimes a spirit is not content with not having a physical body. Unlike demons, they cannot possess a living person, but they can “possess” physical non-person objects like dolls! Dolls typically resemble humans or people and have arms and legs. This allows the spirit to essentially use the doll as a way to continue living their life as if they were human, although it’s a bit limited being in a doll’s body!

Not all dolls are haunted, though. Spirits may attach themselves to a physical non-person object they may have had a strong connection to when they were alive- say, a child with their plush animal. Sometimes, a spirit may just find a doll or plush toy lying around and decide to call it their new home. If you have a doll that’s inhabited by a spirit, it’s best to leave it alone. I mean, you wouldn’t want to anger whoever is inside of it. Can you imagine a haunted doll going around wrecking havoc? Worst case scenario, just call the professionals!

Dear Nate, can anyone learn to use supernatural powers?

Hey Ma! In the dream world, you’ll notice that some people can use powers and others don’t appear to use anything special at all. Truth is, anyone can learn, but depending on various factors, the level of said power can vary.

Some species are “naturally” born with some sort of powers they will eventually learn on their own. For dream demons, they eventually learn to levitate and float on their own in the infant stage. For other things like teleporting, telekinesis, or any other supernatural power, you’ll have to learn that! 

Though let’s assume you’re not something like a dream demon, a werewolf, a vampire, or some other creature that is “naturally” born with some sort of supernatural power. You could learn something if you take the time to study and learn. For example, my friend Almoral had to study and learn how to be a necromancer. He has the ability to raise spirits from the dead! He wasn’t born with it, so he had to learn it. Anyone is capable of learning, but they just have to put in the effort and try.

Of course, you could always learn some basic things. Perhaps the ability to lift simple objects like cups, pencils, a phone, etc. Perhaps you learn how to manipulate water at a simple level. Nothing too over the top, y’know? Of course, maybe you opt to not learn anything special at all- and that’s okay! Some people just decide they’re fine without having powers and live normal lives! You can be like that, or you can be someone with a lot of immense power…like Lucid, which come to think of it, is kind of scary… Having a lot of power but keeping so much of it to yourself, hehe…

I guess we’re just lucky that Lucid is patient and kind. I can’t imagine what would happen if he ever went overboard… I hope that day never comes! Like Lucid said before quoting someone, “With great power comes great responsibility,” so the moral of this story? If you have powers, be responsible with them! And if you don’t, well, that’s fine too!
