ALL CRIMINAL CHARGES AGAINST LUCID DROPPED

By: Porter

Major breaking news: Lucid has officially been dropped of all ongoing criminal charges.

The chief of the DPF’s Detective Investigation Agency, Tsukanai Daiki, made this announcement last Sunday. For a week or so now, the chief was rumored to make an announcement, but it was unclear as to what it would be about. It was speculated that it would be related to Lucid, but it wasn’t clear as to what exactly the extent of the announcement would consist of. Now, we know.

In his announcement, chief Daiki stated that he and his office would be dropping all charges against Lucid, “effective immediately.” With this major move, he also made it clear that Lucid would no longer be “subject to arrest” by any DPF officer or high ranking official.

The chief also held a press conference last Tuesday to further explain and address any concerns regarding this matter.

“I know many of you may be surprised by this decision, but I have made it clear in my announcement that this was not an easy decision to make,” the chief explained, “I am aware that this does not clean up his record, but it is the start in the right direction.”

The chief was asked as to why charges were not dismissed instead of being dropped. When charges are dismissed, they are completely dropped and put behind. Dropping charges is the same, but it doesn’t mean they can’t be reinstated on a later date.

“I believe that dropping charges is ‘safer’ than dismissing this case altogether,” chief Daiki explained, “I don’t think the Council will ask to put the charges back following my personal testimony and decision to drop them. Let me clear, Lucid is not out for revenge against anyone in the dream world. I know we have been told so, but I do not think that.”

There are mixed reactions from residents following this decision ranging from positive to negative.

“I think it’s great that Lucid has been cleared of charges,” Equinox, a resident in the Europe ward tells me, “These are things that happened years ago. Lucid never hurt anyone. It’s time to let it go and move on.”

“I’m conflicted about this,” Calysta, a resident in the Hotel says to me, “On one hand, Lucid did save a lot of people in November when he shut down Francis’ portal. On the other hand, he did something bad years ago that really put a stain on a lot of institutions he’s been at.”

“I respectfully disagree with Tsukanai’s decision,” Sylveran, the famed bounty hunter tells me, “It is not only a wreckless decision, but a stupid one too. Lucid needed to pay for his crimes and he’s being let free instead. Everyone is being fooled by one mere action he took. He may still be out to get revenge. I hope the Council does not pardon him.”

Lucid himself has not made a public statement following this decision. In fact, no one is even sure if Lucid is aware of this news. He has not issued any sort of public statement in nearly a century, but many residents are awaiting to hear what he has to say following this. For many, Lucid is still a remarkable figure. For others, he remains a criminal.

Regardless of whether will come forward with a public statement or even a public appearance, his charges have been dropped, and he is no longer subject to arrest.

“I implore everyone to understand my decision and respect it. I believe this is what is best for not only Lucid, but for the dream world,” chief Daiki said, “I now hand the baton over to the Council and recommend them to issue a pardon. The time to move on is now. The time to heal is now. The time to forgive is now.”

This remains a developing story. Stay with the Tribune for the latest information.

COUNCIL REMAINS QUIET FOLLOWING DECISION

By: Editional staff

It’s been about three days since the decision to drop all charges against Lucid was made, and the Council of the dream world has been unusually quiet.

While the Council is very secretive, there is typically some sort of agenda listed out each day so that the public knows what the members are up to. On typical days, this may consist of private meetings, court hearings, discussions of policy, and rarely public announcements concerning major events. Interestingly, the Council did not issue a public statement following the events of Operation Blackout; this was put forth by the Dimension Protection Force instead.

With such a big event that occurred, it’s not clear why the Council didn’t issue a public statement for it. Even now, Lucid’s drop of charges is considered a big event as well. For nearly a century, the Council has made it clear and put forth the idea that Lucid is a “notorious criminal” who had to be sealed up for the safety and security of the dream world. When Lucid mysteriously returned, the Council further pushed this idea and added that Lucid returned “under the circumstances for vengeance against those who turned on him,” alluding to either the Council, the DPF, or the dream world in general.

It’s been nearly a century and Lucid has seemingly not been out for vengeance, unlike what the Council has put forth. Lucid’s image, post-trial, has been considered by some as a “smear job” done “unfairly” against him. With Lucid’s return in shutting down an incredibly dangerous unauthorized portal that only he could seemingly shut down brings forth a cleaner image of himself. This begs the question: Is the Council incorrect in its vengeance theory?

The silence of the Council has been deafening. Perhaps they are rethinking everything they have pushed forth against Lucid. It's unclear why they haven't announced anything yet, but if they are thinking about it, we at the Subliminal Tribune have put forth our own opinion.

We believe it is the right time and right choice to pardon Lucid.

We agree with chief Tsukanai in which there should be more priority investigating more serious cases against more dangerous criminals. Lucid may have committed crimes, but these were benign. We believe that his punishment back then was too harsh and some of the charges were too unfair.

We understand that Lucid may not be perfect, but his contributions to the dream world are more significant than his negative actions. It is only right to forgive him and acknowledge that he is not looking to get back at anyone or anything.

We can't sway how the Council will vote, but we hope they can pardon him and that our readers understand it's time to move forward and bring Lucid a redemption long overdue.

Q/A: Ask Nate

Dear Nate, how do you feel about Lucid’s charges being dropped?

By: Shaw King

Hiya Shaw! Wowza! I don't know where to start!

I'm kind of surprised that chief Daiki dropped all of Lucid's charges! It's understandably a hard decision for him to make, but he was brave to do it. I guess this means…Lucid is free?

It's weird to say that because over the last century, Lucid went from incredibly well respected to having lost all of that respect from most of the public. It's interesting to still see that there are people who like and forgive him- even after all this time! On the other hand, there's still people who don't like him…

I hope this allows others who see him in a negative light to forgive him. I feel a lot of emotions, but besides being surprised, I'd say I'm also very happy to see this. A lot of us have been waiting for a day like this and it seems like bright days are truly ahead! Ahhh, I just wish I could see his face now…

Dear Nate, will Lucid make a public appearance soon?

By: Eymis Hym

Hi Eymis! That's hard to say- for a number of reasons.

To start, Lucid's last public appearance was in 1930- and that was during his infamous trial. The event was highly sensationalized to the point that it became too overwhelming. After his verdict, he was sealed up and he wasn't seen publicly again…

Well, he was, actually. In 1936, sightings of Lucid began to spread. He kind of became a cryptid of his own for a brief time! When it was seemingly confirmed that he had mysterious returned, the “hunt” for Lucid was on again. Not literally, but at least those looking to find and arrest him. He's been spotted a few times since, but he himself hasn't made an actual, official public appearance since 1930.

Following the news of the last week, I'm not sure if Lucid will publicly come out into the spotlight so soon. I think he may wait a little while before feeling comfortable to make a public appearance. So if you're waiting for him to address the public again, you may have to wait a bit longer, but as long as his charges remained dropped, there's a growing chance of seeing Lucid out in public again like a regular everyday resident! It's what he deserves after all this time…
