WEATHER TO PICK UP BY NEXT WEEK
By: Arial
Spring weather in the dream world is expected to pick up beginning next week.
That’s according to the weather service which recently published a weather bulletin that’s informing the public that the widespread rain showers are expected to transition into thunderstorms. At the moment, many areas are seeing typical showers to moderate rain, but dimensions should begin to see heavier rain and more thunder soon.
“Yes, we’re seeing the usual spring season up to it again,” DWPS senior meteorologist Cirrus told me, “When showers transition into thunderstorms, it becomes something more serious. After all, thunderstorms are no joking matter! They come with their own threats that us here at the weather service have to monitor.”
Cirrus says that thunderstorms can produce severe weather, but not all of them too. Those that become severe in nature can bring gusty winds, excessive lightning, hail, and even a tornado.
“Not all thunderstorms are severe, but they all come with some sort of threat with the main threat being lightning,” she explained, “They can also come with gusty winds, hail, and a tornado! These are more severe and dangerous factors to take into consideration when we monitor storms and have to issue alerts.”
The DWPS issues weather alerts whenever severe weather is impending or impacting an area of the dream world. They take into account different factors, but most of their decision making tends to be based on weather data available from weather stations scattered throughout the dream world.
“Our weather stations are always monitored and given maintenance so they give us accurate up to date data,” Cirrus said, “Whatever information they receive is sent to their corresponding DWPS forecasting office and the HQ, of course. From there, we work together to decide if the weather is getting bad to a point of issuing a watch or a warning.”
With this in mind, Cirrus also says that the public is also a key factor into deciding decisions at the DWPS.
“The public can also report severe weather to us! You don’t have to be a trained weather spotter to provide reports, but you must have a keen eye for it!” she said, “The public can make reports on our website or by dialing *3977 and giving information. We’ll verify the report by reviewing the nearest weather station in the area and make a decision from there. Pretty cool that anyone can help us out if they’re out and about!”
Cirrus says to have ways to receive weather alerts as the weather is expected to pick up next week.
“Make sure you have a way to receive our alerts! Whether it be by radio, television, mobile phone, or whatever method you have, it’s important!” Cirrus exclaimed, “Our job is to keep everyone safe during any sort of weather scenario, so please be weather ready and have a plan in place too just in case.”

DIA EYES CRIMINALS WITH DROPPED CHARGES, MEMO SAYS
By: Porter
A recent memo leaked to the Tribune from within the Dimension Investigation Agency is hinting at an impending order that eyes criminals who have previously had their charges dropped.
According to the memo sent by anonymous DIA agents, the DIA has been quietly working on a plan to reimpose charges on certain criminals that are deemed as “dangerous” by the agency. This appears to be in response to Lucid’s reimposed charges from last March when chief detective Sylveran assumed the top position— a move that some have called controversial and injust.
The memo says that the original order was set to target ex-convicts who have completed their time in prison and been released from it within the past one hundred years; however, when word of this leaked, there was much backlash. The DIA quietly scrapped that plan, but remains determined to push forward an order that would target those whose charges were dropped by the previous chief detective.
“You know, the DIA is always working to make sure our streets are safe from crime and dangerous criminals. Chief Sylveran was straight forward on day one with his plans and intentions,” DIA spokesman Kristopher Levy said in a press conference last Tuesday, “That being said, nothing has been set in stone and these are merely rumors. If anything is actually set forth, you’ll be hearing it straight from me or the chief detective himself.”
When asked about the recent leaks from within the DIA, Levy said that it would be dealt with.
“We don’t know how these ‘leaks’ are being disclosed with different mediums of media, but some of them are just rumors with no substantial evidence to back them up,” he explained, “Any sort of leak is still serious and can be considered an offense so we’ll have to track down and see who’s spreading these rumors to the press. It won’t be tolerated.”
In addition to this memo, the DIA discussed what it described as “initial success” with their recent application “CrimeIn” and its implementation.
“The early results are in and ‘CrimeIn’ is a hit!” Levy said, “Thousands of users have downloaded this application and this has led to dozens upon dozens of reports. We’ve even gotten a few self-reports too, which is pretty impressive!”
The spokesman denied providing evidence regarding these statistics.
“We’ll provide the stats for you all when we get them typed down, but it’s looking very, very good. ‘CrimeIn’ is a hit and it shows that modernization is possible,” he said, “We hope other agencies in the DPF follow our footsteps to modernize and take their own agency into the twenty-first century!”
This is a developing story. Stick with the Subliminal Tribune for the latest information as it happens.
Q/A: Ask Cirrus
Dear Cirrus, how are temperatures measured in the dream world?
By: Fahren H.
Hello Fahren! All temperatures are measured in celsius across the dream world, unless it is otherwise stated so.
Dear Cirrus, can anyone work at the DWPS?
By: Hardee Work
Hello Hardee! Yes, anyone can apply to the DWPS, just as long as you do not have anything on your personal criminal record. You’ll have to undergo training, regardless of position. A majority of positions that are available right now are in the surveyor field, but occasionally, some other positions in other fields will open up!
Dear Cirrus, what are rain gauges used for?
By: Ray N.
Hello Ray! Rain gauges are very easy to understand, as they measure how much rain has fallen in a certain area over time. They come in different sizes and models, and some have to be dumped daily to ensure accurate measurements as the days go by. I recommend having one if you have a backyard and see how much rain falls when there is rain or storms in the forecast! Just be sure to take note of the measurement and dump it out after it rains so you can gather accurate data the following day. It’s a simple little instrument, but interesting nonetheless!
Dear Cirrus, what’s the difference between a funnel cloud and a tornado?
By: Narr O.
Hello Narr! People seem to always confuse funnel clouds with tornadoes, and there’s a difference! To put it simply, funnel clouds are narrow, spinning columns of air that begin to descend from a cloud. It looks like a tornado, but there's a catch!
Funnel clouds can only be called a tornado if it makes contact with the ground. This contact often involves physically seeing the cloud touch the ground or if the tornado has picked up any sort of debris. So the next time you see a funnel cloud, just be sure it has touched the ground or picked up debris before calling it a tornado. Even so, we also keep track of these! Tornadoes can form along squall lines, cold fronts, drylines, supercells, and even tropical cyclones. We track and monitor all of these and tornadoes are usually seen the most in the spring. Yikes!
Dear Cirrus, are all units measured the same?
By: Mez Zur
Hello Mez! Not exactly. As stated above, sometimes we use fahrenheit when reporting temperatures for certain dimensions. On a general basis, we operate with the metric system when measuring things like rainfall, cloud height, storm surge, wind speed, etc. Again, unless otherwise stated, units will be metric.
Dear Cirrus, how do seasons happen in the dream world?
By: Winter Sols
Hello Winter! Seasons are determined based on human population in the real world. Considering that a majority of humans live in the Northern Hemisphere of the Earth, this makes a majority of seasonal memories be based from that hemisphere. I feel sorry for humans in the Southern Hemisphere who fall into the dream world not knowing the seasons here are reversed for them!
