DIA CHIEF FINISHES FIRST WEEK WITH GOALS, QUESTIONS

By: Roman

It’s officially been one week since DIA chief Sylveran was sworn into office.

In the seven days since he was sworn in, the new chief detective filed one order for each of those days. These orders ranged from tackling crime, modernizing the DIA, and dealing with the ongoing persecution of Lucid.

On his first day in office, chief Sylveran filed an order that reimposed criminal charges on Lucid— a promise he had made just before entering office— and a promise he kept. Two additional orders in that week (filed on Tuesday and Wednesday) also pertained to Lucid. Tuesday’s order directed the investigation into Lucid’s whereabouts solely on behalf of the chief detective while Wednesday’s order opened an investigation into how Lucid managed to come back into the dream world in 1936.

“I believe the public wants and needs to know how this happened so such a case does not happen again,” the chief stated on LiminalSpaces. In doing so, the chief is keeping the promise of bringing Lucid before the law.

Other orders filed this week focused more on tackling crime in the dream world such as orders filed on Friday, Sunday and Monday. Friday’s order changes DIA policy into solely focusing on crime related matters to investigate. The move was met with some criticism.

“The DIA has long investigated all sorts of matters, not just crime,” Samantha, a resident in the U.S. enclave said, “To abandon that policy and only focus on crime is kind of ridiculous.”

The order moves non-crime related cases upon the Dimension Patrol Unit, which chief Sylveran also formally asked to “help” out investigators at the DIA by deploying additional patrol officers in areas of “higher than normal” crime.

Perhaps the most puzzling order was filed on Saturday which changed the name of the DIA from “Detective Investigation Agency” to “Dimension Investigation Agency.” Many members of the DIA and public were perplexed by this order as it does not necessarily address some of the more greater concerns within the agency and in the dream world.

“How does this lower crime in the dream world?” one user on LiminalSpaces said.

“Focusing on the biggest issues we care about… changing the name of an agency.” another user posted.

“We’re not sure what the end goal behind this move was,” one DIA agent told us via an anonymous letter, “I suppose he’s trying to ‘modernize’ the agency as he said he would, but it doesn’t happen with a name change.”

Following his first week, questions remain at the agency such as where it goes from there, what will happen to Lucid, and uncertainty about the former chief detective— who is still on administrative leave. The Tribune has received letters from agents within the DIA discussing the environment now.

“The first week was definitely different from normal days. We’ve gotten placed in cases dealing with crimes,” one anonymous letter said, “The problem is that some of us have never dealt with crime related cases before and we don’t have enough training to help us with that. This is why non-crime related cases are good because they help train us and give us experience.”

“The DIA name change was really unneeded. It doesn’t really change anything within the agency,” another anonymous letter said, “It’s like ‘how does this help us in any way?’ type of situation. It doesn’t.”

“If I was Lucid, I would really find somewhere to hide. Sylveran isn’t playing around,” another anonymous letter said, “He’s being much tougher on Lucid and vowed to arrest him himself. I don’t think it’s fair.”

“Chief Daiki still hasn’t reported for work and I’ve heard that Sylveran is planning to file an order that would order Daiki to get back to work or he would be fired from the agency altogether,” another letter said, “I don’t know if this is true, but I wouldn’t count it out as false.”

The DIA has not confirmed nor denied this rumor after the Tribune reached out. Nonetheless, it’s certain that the chief will continue to pursue more ambitions for the DIA, but the extent of that ambition remains unknown. Stay tuned to the Tribune for the latest.

TIMELY ASKS FOR INPUT ABOUT CLOCK ISSUES

By: Oswald

Sir Timely has issued a statement on LiminalSpaces that deals with time.

According to the post on the social media platform, Sir Timely is asking for input regarding clocks in the dream world. Based on the post, it appears that there is something abnormal happening to clocks.

“A quick question or two: have your clocks been acting funny lately? Slower? Faster? Is the ticking off? Is the tock offbeat?” Sir Timely said in the post, “This is no cause for panic, but please let me know if your clocks have been acting off in any sort of way as of late!”

The Tribune reached out to different places in the dream world to hear what residents had to say about their own clocks.

“The clock at the Cafe seems to be running slightly slower than normal,” Artisan, a barista at the Cafe said, “I find myself having to correct the time on it at least once every day. It’s barely noticeable at first, but those minutes do add up.”

“I’m sitting here counting a normal minute in my head but my digital clock is off by maybe two seconds?” Henry, a resident in the rural dream world said, “I don’t know if I’m counting too fast or if I’m not counting right, but surely my clock isn’t slower?”

“My grand-father clock seems to be off-sync,” Anastasius, a vampire resident in the rural dream world said, “The time seems to run fine, but it’s not ticking in sync with each second that passes. I wouldn’t have noticed if Sir Timely did not mention it.”

A few members within the Tribune have also reported abnormal behavior with their own clocks.

“The pace of my watch seems to be slow at times and then faster at other times,” Tribune writer Porter writes, “Definitely quite strange!”

“My alarm clock has been going off about a few seconds before the actual time,” Tribune writer and photographer Arial told me, “I make sure to set it at the write time, but it’s seemingly going off just a tad bit earlier each time.”

The Tribune has reached out to Sir Timely but have gotten no reply as of yet. It’s unclear what exactly is going on, but as the saying goes: time will tell. This is a developing story. Stay with the Tribune for the latest information.

Q/A: Ask Nate

Dear Nate, where does most of the crime in the dream world happen?

By: Uptoo Nogud

Hello Uptoo! As much as the dream world is a nice place, there are still bad people out there who do bad things. This leads to crime, but where does most of it even happen?

Crime can happen anywhere in the dream world. Even in the District, there are instances of crime that are committed against people, but the District does not have the highest crime! I discussed this before but the "dark corners" of the dream world have some of the shadiest kinds of crime. These are where wanted fugitives and bad people tend to reside, and these places give me the creeps!

These dark corners are not literally the corners of the dream world, but are areas you want to avoid big time. There aren't many DPF agents around those areas so it's easy to commit a crime and get away with it. The rural dream world is also no stranger to crime either. Since the rural dream world is pretty empty in most places, you could get away with something easy. It also makes it a bit hard for the DPF to investigate much out there as witnesses are low and there's only so much you can use to aid you.

All in all, crime does exist in the dream world, but I'd say you're relatively safe as long as you know your way around and know what areas to avoid. Like I said, if you ever need a guide, you can count on me to keep you safe!

Dear Nate, who’s the oldest person you know?

By: Elle Durrs

Hiya Elle! I know a lot of people from my time here in the dream world! Over the course of two thousand and five hundred plus years, I’ve met lots of faces and seen people come and go. I’m a pretty old dream demon! However, that’s nothing!

If you didn’t know, Rainier at the Pole is around 90 years old! That’s not really a lot if you put it into a dream world perspective. My friends Epsilon and Dylan are in their 200’s, which is also not a lot! My friend Almoral is in his mid 300’s, which still isn’t a lot! Seems like anything below or in the 100’s is not a lot, but I know much older people!

Of course, there’s also Lucid. Lucid is older than me as he is past 5,500 years old. That is quite old! But is he the oldest person I know? Not even close! Chief Daiki is also a dream demon like Lucid and me. He’s older than Lucid actually! From what I recall, chief Daiki is around 6,800 years old. Dream demons in general can live up to thousands of years, so these numbers are nothing still!

The director of the DPF- my boss- Nikolaos Ferekides…boy, he’s much older than all of us…combined! I’m not sure of director Ferekides’ age, but considering he is one of the original big figures who helped bring stability to the dream world several millennia ago, you can assume he’s… old. Even so, is he the oldest person I know? Hmm… I don’t think so…

Perhaps the oldest person I know is Sir Timely! You see, Timely has been around for quite a long, long, long time- pun intended! It’s believed that Timely has been around since at least when time itself began ticking in the dream world. That is to say, Timely may have been born on the day the dream world was created! That is something quite crazy to think about. Timely’s age is also unknown as age is a topic they tend to scoot around. It’s always been a mystery, but Timely always says they’ve kept track of time for a long time, so who knows? Timely could be the oldest person I know!

These time and age questions can be quite surprising. Our own perspectives of time can be altered in the dream world as our aging process is compressed so we all live longer lives. If you think someone like Rainier is old, that may be your perspective, but the truth is that he is young whereas someone like me is ancient- in proper terms. Who’s the oldest person you know? If you tell me, then I’m flattered to be that statistic! Just don’t make me feel older than I look… There are still some modern things I don’t really understand, hehe.
