MONOCHROME GANG DECLARES SUCCESS, RAIN TO PERSIST

By: Arial

The Monochrome Gang have officially declared their event successful for a second year in a row.

As inclement weather is keeping people indoors, much of the foot traffic has been redirected to several of the black and white dimensions that the group painted. Many visitors were seen taking pictures and enjoying the scenery.

"It was a sight to see!" a local photographer tells me, "I don't have to use a black and white filter to take pictures of these dimensions when they're already in black and white!"

"I really love how the Cinema was showing old films and cartoons," an avid movie watcher says, "I just love how their catalog of films change depending on the season. Pretty cool!"

Charlie, the main organizer of the event, showed great emotions upon seeing the momentum for the event. Artisan of the Cafe says he is hoping to bring it back again next year.

"Charlie can't necessarily speak, but he definitely wants this event to come back next year," Artisan says, "He hopes that next year the weather won't be too dismal, but enough to keep people indoors and check out more monochrome rooms. It'll be a lot of fun!"

In terms of the weather, the weather service is still forecasting ongoing showers and thunderstorms for at least the next two weeks or so.

"Lots of rain and lots of thunder," Cirrus of the DWPS tells me, "I'm aware this monochrome event is ending soon, but the rain isn't. People will have to deal with it for a little while longer."

According to the DWPS, there have been minimal reports of flooding, but not to a large extent.

"Some minor flooding in some dimensions, but we're not seeing something terrible according to our weather station models," Cirrus explains, "I suppose the drainage systems are hard at work!"

As thunderstorms continue, the possibility of severe weather also does, and Cirrus says that some isolated thunderstorms have become severe.

"While not a widespread severe event, pockets of some extra nasty storms have popped up, along with hail, strong winds, and lots of lightning. So far though, no tornadic activity yet," she says.

Cirrus says not to let our guards down too easily, as things might just be getting started.

"Once a thunderstorm goes severe, there's always the chance for a quick spin up. After all, we are still under a 'medium' risk for severe weather, and tornadoes are pretty common in the springtime…" she explains.

Regardless of the weather, the Monochrome Gang says this is the last week for their event, and encourage people to keep coming out until they start cleaning up and repainting dimensions back to their original states.

"Please please, come and visit the rooms!" Artisan exclaims, "It'll likely be a year before we do this again, so enjoy it while you can! Why not try a monochrome croissant with some black coffee at the Cafe? You'll love it!"

For the latest on the weather, you can visit the DWPS' website or visit your local forecasting office for more information.

A ONE ON ONE WITH ELIAZAR OF THE RESCUE OPS TEAM

By: Porter

Hello everyone! I had the pleasure to interview an important member of the DPF’s rescue operations team. While he is not dispatched as much as he used to be in his earlier days, he is still quite important to the team. As head instructor nowadays, he is in charge of the recruit team which oversees training of individuals who want to join the bigger units like fire, medical, or disaster! Without further ado, here is part of my interview with Eliazar!

PORTER: So hello Eliazar! Thank you for agreeing to do this interview!

ELIAZAR: Of course.

PORTER: So, how long have you been in this position for?

ELIAZAR: Ehh, I’d say give or take about fifteen years.

PORTER: How did you come to the position anyway?

ELIAZAR: After the last head instructor resigned, Finn decided I would be the best option to replace him. Prior to that, I was in the fire unit for a good chunk of my time there.

PORTER: How long have you been working on the team?

ELIAZAR: Reaching 95 years on it.

PORTER: That’s a long time! So, have you enjoyed being a teacher then?

ELIAZAR: It’s alright. The recruits love calling me ‘Coach Eli’ when talking to me. I can tell they can be intimidated sometimes by me, but I don't bite.

PORTER: You recently got dispatched to help with the Box dimension incident. How did that go?

ELIAZAR: Honestly, I’m not sure why Finn even sent me if there was no rescuing involved. I guess it was alright. Met some new people, I guess I made new friends- but we let that fool get away.

PORTER: Why do you think Finn asked you in specific?

ELIAZAR: Tch, he likes to pester me on purpose. I really don’t know.

PORTER: Okay, besides work, you are also a father, right?

ELIAZAR: That is correct. I’m a father to one special kid…he means everything to me.

PORTER: I’ve heard a lot of chatter that you’re a single father…are you sure you aren’t looking for a relationship? I mean, I’ve heard people suggest a few candidates…

ELIAZAR: Not interested.

PORTER: Surely you must like someone?

ELIAZAR: Pass.

PORTER: Are you sure you and Finn aren’t compatible? I mean, the gossip about you guys is just-

ELIAZAR: Gossip? There’s gossip? What gossip? No, Finn and I aren’t talking like that, and much less compatible. If I had to pick between a date with Finn or drinking hot sauce from a bottle, I’d prefer a meteor falling on me.

PORTER: Geez, you’re so dramatic…

Q/A: Ask Epsilon

Dear Epsilon, what happens when humans dream?

By: Bubby L.

Hello Bubby. As you know, there are various ways for humans to enter the dream world, and one of the easiest ways is by simply going to sleep. When humans sleep, they may be lucky enough to dream.

When humans dream, they automatically enter the dream world. Well, sort of. You see, most human dreams revolve around personal memories and figures in their lives. Past memories, friendships, places they’ve been, etc., are all a key to the human dream. Because dreams are personal, they enter their own “dream bubble”, or what the DPF calls, Human Dream Spheres (HDS).

There’s a large area in the dream world which is where all HDS manifest themselves. Each sphere belongs to a different human in the real world, and each sphere contains the dream that that particular human is having at that moment. The DPF guards this area of the dream world very heavily, so trespassers are not really a problem. However, on some occasions, trespassers sneak past guards and enter random spheres where they infiltrate human dreams and ultimately mess around in them. Unfortunately, this can result in humans having bad dreams, or nightmares. Getting caught trespassing and manipulating human dreams can land you in big trouble.

On some other occasions, humans will accidentally wander out of their sphere and actually enter the “real” dream world. When this happens, they are often disoriented and dreams become more fuzzier. Humans aren’t in any danger though as their “persona” or “soul” is sort of static and transparent. They almost appear to be ghost-like, but not quite. Therefore, humans can’t experience real harm in the dream world, if they are in our world, but asleep in the real one. In fact, if they are about to experience harm, they always wake up with no injuries.

Once humans wake up, whether it be out of fright or just normal nature, the sphere itself will fade. Anyone caught sneaking in the sphere when this happens will simply be ejected from it back into our world, so there’s no danger of fading away along with the sphere. Each sphere is very personal to that specific human, so the DPF guards this area to keep out trespassers.

Of course, humans don’t always accidentally wander off into our world or always dream each time they go to sleep. But it’s their memories and nostalgia that make up the many dimensions of the dream world, so we owe it to them to keep on remembering the past and keep on dreaming.

Dear Epsilon, do all doors in the dream world work correctly?

By: Oppen Ador

Hello Oppen. Doors in the dream world are another weird thing that is supposed to work correctly, but they don’t always do. They can be unpredictable.

Most doors work fine. If you go visit the Cafe and open the door to it, you’ll enter the Cafe-b nothing too weird. However, some doors in other dimensions can lead to either random “sub” dimensions, or nothing at all.

“Sub dimensions” are rooms that are recognized as “nostalgic” or “significant”, but too small to be considered a real dimension, and located in an abnormal place. They are sort of like enclaves as well, and there are many of these dimensions scattered throughout the dream world.

This is where the door question comes into play. Some doors just lead to the most random sub-dimensions you wouldn’t think would be behind it. These sub-dimensions don’t really receive a lot of foot traffic, either because of its location or small sizes, so you’ll often find yourself alone in such a room.

And of course, some doors don’t lead to anything. Open a door, and it’s simply darkness or leads to a wall. It’s said that these doors are there because they do belong to a dimension, but there aren’t any memories to “create” a room behind the door. For example, a door in the Portables may lead to nothing because while human memory can recall the portable itself, it may not recall the inside of the portable, so that makes the door lead to nothing because the dimension is unable to “create” a room behind the door.

This shouldn’t discourage you from opening doors, however. Like I said, a lot of doors work fine and take you to their correct destination, but some doors will lead to nothing, or better yet, a surprise sub-dimension. The next time you’re travelling the dream world, why not try opening doors to see where they lead to? Just try not to open doors to houses, since you know privacy, but otherwise you may find a surprise waiting for you behind it.
